Stephanie de Beauharnais, Grand Duchess of Baden

Stephanie de Beauharnais was the Grand Duchess of Baden. She was the “adopted” daughter of Napoléon Bonaparte and married to the Grand Duke Carl von Baden as a way for Napoléon to secure an alliance with the House of Baden.

Grand Duke Carl von Baden and Stephanie de Beauharnais had five children – two sons whom died as infants and three daughters whom lived to adulthood.

Her mtDNA profile was determined by analysis of two of her maternal descendants – two great-great-great granddaughters – during the attempted identification of Kaspar Hauser.
