Karl Wilhelm Naundorff

The most well-known impersonator of Louis XVII of France. This man claimed that he had escaped from the Temple of Paris and another young boy had died in his place.

DNA analysis confirmed that he was only an impersonator and the true Louis XVII had died in the Temple of Paris during the French Revolution.

His mtDNA HVR1 and HVR2 profile was derived from DNA testing of a bone and hair sample from his coffin in 2001.
