Gilbert Sigvard Emanuel Danbom, one of several young children lost during the RMS Titanic sinking

Gilbert Danbom was one of several young children lost during the RMS Titanic sinking in April 1912.

He was a 5 month-old boy born in Sweden to American parents. All three perished in the disaster and only his father’s body was found and identified.

Gilbert Danbom’s mtDNA profile was determined by DNA analysis of two of his maternal relatives, during the investigation into the identity of the “Unknown Child” – the body of a young boy pulled from the ocean after the sinking.
