Finca Clavijo mtDNA type 15

A mitochondrial DNA type identified in the cemetery at Finca Clavijo in the Canary Islands (dating from the 15th – 17th centuries).

This mtDNA sequence was determined by analysis of the HVR1 region of the mtDNA genome from a tooth sample collected at the Finca Clavijo cemetery in the northern part of Gran Canaria. This mtDNA type is of Sub-Saharan African origin, indicative of the Sub-Saharan African slave trade.
