Agnes of Germany

- Advertisment -

Member of the Salian Imperial Family.

Daughter of Henry IV, Holy Roman Emperor and Bertha of Savoy. Sister of Henry V, Holy Roman Emperor and Conrad II.

First marriage to Frederick I, Duke of Swabia. Their 11 children included Frederick II (Duke of Swabia) and Conrad III (of Germany).

Second marriage to Saint Leopold III, Margrave of Austria. Their children included Leopold IV (Margrave of Austria and Duke of Bavaria as Leopold I) and Henry II Jasomirgott (Duke of Austria).

Her mtDNA HVR1 and HVR2 profile and Autosomal STR profile were obtained through DNA testing of her remains in 2013. This DNA analysis was conducted to determine if Leopold III’s oldest son, Adalbert (who was ignored in the line of succession), was Leopold III’s son from his first marriage or Agnes’s biological son from Leopold III’s second marriage.
