Queen Ketevan

Queen Ketevan (or Ketevan the Martyr) was the queen of Kakheti, a kingdom in eastern Georgia. She surrendered herself as an honorary hostage in a failed attempt to protect her kingdom from being attacked by Iranian armies and was tortured and killed in 1624.

She was the daughter of Prince Ashotan I of Mukhrani and married Prince David of Kakheti (King David I from 1601-1602).

Her mtDNA HVR1 profile was determined by DNA testing of an arm bone discovered in the St Augustine convent, India.
