Eugene Francis Rice, one of several young children lost during the RMS Titanic sinking

Eugene Rice was one of several young children lost during the RMS Titanic sinking in April 1912.

He was a 30 month-old American boy traveling in third class on the Titanic with his mother and four brothers. All six perished in the disaster.

Eugene Rice’s mtDNA profile was determined by DNA analysis of two of his maternal relatives, during the investigation into the identity of the “Unknown Child” – the body of a young boy pulled from the ocean after the sinking.
